Syllabus Review/Course Introduction
Homework: Google “New Media Art” and find an artist whose work you feel
passionate about (love or hate) and come to class on Wednesday with
a link to an example of their work(image or video) and ready to describe
what about the work incites a passionate response in you.

Technique demos: Making selections - repositioning, transforming, cropping, experimenting with various selection tools and adding and subtracting from selections. Read and discuss: Postmodernism and PhotoShop - by Lev Manovich and the article on Copyright & Art. Available on Carmen.
Week 2:

Technique demos - working with layers; adding, organizing, hiding, transforming, copying, moving, linking, merging, duplicating, flattening, opacity changes. Also, working with fonts and a discussion of raster vs. vector graphics. Homework: work on project 1.

Technique demos: Digital painting tools - tool option pallets, painting modes, color palettes, gradients, editing brush shapes, and creating, saving and loading custom-made brushes.
Week 3:

Technique demos: Photo retouching using color replacement, hue, saturation, levels, the patch tool, cloning stamp, healing brush, sponge tool and the dodge and burn tools.
Week 4:
1/28 Work Day.
1/30 Project 1 Critique
Project must be ready to view by the start of class.
Project #2 Assigned.
Homework: Project 2 proposal.
Week 5:

Project 2 Proposals Due.
Technique Demos: How to create a .gif animation in photoshop. Advanced selection and masking techniques, layer masks, gradient masking. Vector Graphics in Photoshop.
